Dinner Yeast Rolls

Hey friends! So for this recipe I am going to try to be very specific so that you don’t make some of the same mistakes I’ve made when making a yeast dough.

Pre-Notes

  • When mixing your yeast with the sugar and liquid (usually milk or water) make sure your water is warm and not boiling. Boiling liquid will kill your yeast and will cause it to never rise.
  • If you make this mistake of using water that is too hot and you notice that your yeast does not get bubbly. STOP! Do not continue, start over. If you continue at this point because you are too lazy to start over you will regret it. Your dough will never rise and your bread will be rock hard.
  • Do not over mix your dough, when separating your dough grease your hands to prevent the dough from sticking to your fingers.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 2 Tbsp. active dry yeast

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1 large cold egg

  • 3 3/4 cup all purpose flour

Directions

  • Grease or line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Add warm milk, sugar, and yeast into the bowl of a stand mixer. You can also do this by hand. Allow to proof for approximately 2-5 minutes.
  • Add in oil, salt, egg, and flour (I add all the flour at once). Mix until combined. Let your stand mixer knead the dough for about 4 minutes. The dough will be soft and sticky. (Adding too much flour will make the rolls dense. Refrain from adding more flour to the dough, this will make your dough too dense. Mix the dough enough to be able to work with it with greased oily hands).
  • Grease your hands with butter or oil and shape dough into 12-15 individual balls.
  • Place dough in a prepared 9×13 baking dish and cover with a dish towel.
  • Preheat oven to 375 F and place pan on top of oven and let the dough rise while your oven is preheating.
  • Mix one egg and 1 tbsp of heavy cream or milk and brush the tops of your rolls before baking.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and enjoy!
