How to use tipless piping bags for royal icing
Well hello again, this is a topic that has always interested me but at the same time terrified me. When I started decorating sugar cookies all I used were Wilton Piping bags and Wilton Piping tips. I often wondered, “wow does this process get any less messy and time consuming!?”. I have to say that it doesn’t get any less messy but it does become a bit less complicated with tipless bags. Here are a few tips and tricks i’ve learned along the way relating to tipless bags.
- The EssentialsWe need:
- Cookies
- Tipless Piping bags
- Bag Clips
- glass or jar
- piping tips
All the things in the photo will help you to create beautifully decorated cookies if you know how to use them properly.
- Piping Bags & Clips
- With time and trial and error you will find the brand of tipless piping bags you like the most. I love using Cookie Cutter Kingdom Piping Bags or Bees Baked Art Supplies piping bags.
- For securing your royal icing you have many options as far as clips go, you can use bag ties, bag clips, or office clips (this is my favorite option)
- Cutting the Bag: How big to cut the hole?
- A great way to gauge how big to cut your bag hole is by using Wilton Piping tips as guides. The first thing you want to do is find the seam of your bag, make sure it is centered and simply place a piping tip (of the size you want to cut) over the tip of your bag. Make sure to cut while the seam is in the middle to ensure a straight cut
- Practice with the bag you’ve cut before using it on a real cookie, try practicing lines, letters, or shapes to see if this is the size of hole that you need.
- Make sure to use tiny scissors when cutting to make sure that you are precise.
