Mirror Glaze Cake

Hey sweet friends! So my fear when making a mirror glaze cake was: “will it melt?” Obviously I know this sounds crazy! But they look so shiny, runny, and gooey…soo that’s how I’m justifying my thoughts. Anyway, here’s what I did to start.

I used a box cake mix, because I wanted to test if there is a specific type of cake that works with mirror glaze, and box cake mix works y’all!

After I mixed the batter, I split the batter in half and painted one half Wilton Violet and the other half Wilton Teal.

I know the batter looks clumpy but my cake turned out great!

Also during this little project I also discovered my new favorite cake pan, the Dough-Ez Spring Form Pan. This pan is a non-stick pan and I love it because it is super easy to release your cake from it.

I also used a bit of Wilton Bake Easy and some flour just to make extra sure the nothing stick…eventhough the pan is non-stick. I’m paranoid ok.

Once I placed all the batter into my pan I baked my cake at 350 degrees F for 28 minutes.

Trim any domes and cut the layers. I used a buttercream frosting to fill and crumb coat the cake. Remember that In between adding the filling and crumb coat the cake has to be chilled approximately 5-7 minutes to make sure the frosting is chilled for the gelatin mirror glaze.
